If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
Title: If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
Author: Laura Joffe Numeroff
Illustrated by Felicia Bond
Published by Harper & Row (1985)
A young boy is sitting on the sidewalk when he sees a mouse and offers to give it a cookie, little did the boy know that the mouse needs more than just a cookie. The mouse needs milk after the cookie, then a straw, then a napkin, and the list doesn’t stop there. The boy grows tired after doing all of these tasks for the mouse. In the end, he learns his lesson that if you give the mouse a glass of milk, he’s going to want a cookie to go with it.
This book would be a great read for younger ages. This book also allows for children to predict what the mouse wants next, and there is some repetition in the beginning and end.
I give this book a four out of five stars. While it is realistic that once you give an animal a piece of food, they will follow you around to beg for me. It isn’t realistic for an animal to ask for several human-like tasks. I did love the illustrations though; they were very detailed!
